Coaching Philosophy

Instruction:

As much as it is possible, I think it is important to create room for 1-on-1 instruction with the kids.  If I think a player has problems with a specific drill during practice or a certain concept during the game, I will make sure I am able to work personally with the player to improve.

Preparation:

I expect players to arrive 30 minutes before each game.  This gives us adequate time to warmup and to also go through the game plan.

For the safety of the players, I will always stress the importance of wearing shin guards, removing jewelry, and wearing proper fitting shoes. I will also remind them to avoid dangerous play.

Playing Time:

In competitive soccer the amount of playing time during games will depend on the situation and the need of the team during a specific game.  As a coach, I will make sure that every player has as much playing time as possible.  However, I also believe that the players can earn more playing time based on their performance.

Competition:

While I believe in healthy competition, it is important for the kids to have fun playing the game.  As a competitive soccer coach I encourage the players to go into the game with a winning spirit but I also want the kids to learn the skills of the game and have fun doing it.  I believe the best way to learn is by doing (playing).

Coaches’ Pledge:

  • I will treat all players, parents, opponents and referees with respect.

  • I will respect the interpretation of rules and judgment of the referees.
