As much as it is possible, I think it is important to create room for 1-on-1 instruction with the kids. If I think a player has problems with a specific drill during practice or a certain concept during the game, I will make sure I am able to work personally with the player to improve.
I expect players to arrive 30 minutes before each game. This gives us adequate time to warmup and to also go through the game plan.
For the safety of the players, I will always stress the importance of wearing shin guards, removing jewelry, and wearing proper fitting shoes. I will also remind them to avoid dangerous play.
In competitive soccer the amount of playing time during games will depend on the situation and the need of the team during a specific game. As a coach, I will make sure that every player has as much playing time as possible. However, I also believe that the players can earn more playing time based on their performance.
While I believe in healthy competition, it is important for the kids to have fun playing the game. As a competitive soccer coach I encourage the players to go into the game with a winning spirit but I also want the kids to learn the skills of the game and have fun doing it. I believe the best way to learn is by doing (playing).
I will treat all players, parents, opponents and referees with respect.
I will respect the interpretation of rules and judgment of the referees.
I will treat each player as an individual remembering that each player develops at different social, physical and mental rates.
I will be knowledgeable of the rules of soccer and will teach these rules to my players.
I will do my best to provide a safe playing environment for my players.
I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players recognizing the value of play in a child’s development.
My assistant coaches and I will lead by example by demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all players.
I will remind my team and fans to exhibit good sportsmanship at all times, both when winning and when losing.
